The World's Most Expensive Wasabi? Listen to Chef Guy Higa Chat

Executive Chef at the Kaua'i Marriott Resort and Beach Club,
Guy Higa not only uses great ingredients in his cooking - he grows
them. With a blossoming herb garden that feeds the kitchen, and a
wasabi that's grown on the Big Island ( and retails for around $50 per
pound) chef Guy promotes local produce throughout the resorts
restaurants.

A graduate of Kalani High School, Higa trained at Kapiolani Community College and is

a product of the Westin apprenticeship program and the Westin Culinary Institute for

Chefs.  Prior to joining the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort & Beach Club, Higa climbed his way

up the culinary ladder, starting his career as a dishwasher at HMS Bounty.  From there,

he trained under Japanese chefs at the renowned Milano restaurant, later becoming a prep

cook and then a sous chef.  Higa’s experience also includes positions at The Westin

Ilikai, The Westin Kauai and Coco Palms. Hear him chat with Jo here
